Gwangsan-gu in Gwangju has embarked on a project to create Nurigil, aiming to transform Pyeongdong Lake into a serene 'healing spot.' Pyeongdong Lake, situated around 1 Myeonghwa-dong, Gwangsan-gu, boasts a rich history dating back over 100 years since its creation in 1926.

Encompassing an area of 15,418㎡ and a beneficiary area of 413ha, the lake is teeming with diverse wildlife and plant species. The vicinity features rice paddies, fields, and villages, offering picturesque views of the lake from the 'Myeonghwa-dong Janggofun' tomb dating back to the Three Kingdoms Period.

The area holds historical significance, including Myeonghwa Village, a major cotton-producing area, and the Pyeongdong Water Fishery Association, the first water association in the Yeongsan River basin. The 'Vitalization of Pyeongdong Lake' has long been a dream for Pyeongdong residents.

In pursuit of this goal, Gwangsan-gu is promoting the Nurigil project, planning to establish a 3.7km-long trail, an observatory, and a rest area by 2026. The trail will take various forms along the lake, providing a circular route showcasing the ecological charm of Pyeongdong Lake and its seasonal transformations.

This initiative is anticipated to enhance the residents' quality of life, bring economic benefits, and is designed to incorporate residents' opinions during the planning and implementation phases.
