Gwangsan-gu Transforms Pyeongdong Lake into a 'Healing Spot'-남도투데이 korea namdotoday

Gwangsan-gu in Gwangju has initiated a comprehensive Nurigil project to turn Pyeongdong Lake into a serene 'healing spot.'

Pyeongdong Lake, situated in the vicinity of 1 Myeonghwa-dong, Gwangsan-gu, boasts a rich history spanning over 100 years since its establishment in 1926. This locale is a habitat for diverse animals and plants, covering an expansive area of 15,418㎡ and a beneficiary area of 413ha. The surroundings include rice paddies, fields, and villages, offering panoramic views of the lake from the Three Kingdoms Period tomb named 'Myeonghwa-dong Janggofun.

' The area is steeped in history, featuring Myeonghwa Village, a major cotton-producing area, and the Pyeongdong Water Fishery Association, the pioneering water association in the Yeongsan River basin. The 'Vitalization of Pyeongdong Lake' has been a longstanding aspiration for Pyeongdong residents.

In pursuit of this vision, Gwangsan-gu is actively promoting the Nurigil project, envisioning the creation of a 3.7km-long trail, an observatory, and a rest area by 2026. The trail, designed in various configurations along the lake, will form a circular route showcasing the ecological charm of Pyeongdong Lake and its seasonal transformations.

Anticipated to enhance residents' quality of life and generate economic benefits, this project is set to incorporate residents' opinions, ensuring it aligns with community needs and aspirations.
